Kakadu Plum is a native Australian bush fruit, similar to a plum. It is wild harvested in the Top End of Australia, as well as around Broome in Western Australia.
It comes in two colours. Yellow and a more oxidized black which is much more tangier.
It is not a strong flavour though, especially when mixed in with other ingredients, so it’s not something that will give you a big flavor impact. Add it to your smoothie, and you probably won’t taste it.
Add it to your water bottle and you will!
It’s fibrous and has a tart, bitter taste. A little sour but also a little sweet. An aroma of pear and apple with subtle citrus tastes.
One serve of Kakadu Plum Powder (3g) gives you 180% of your daily vitamin C intake.
In traditional medicine, Kakadu plums were used to treat colds, the flu, and headaches. They were also utilized as an antiseptic or soothing balm for the limbs.
More recently, they have been recognized for their high nutritional value. They are low in calories, rich in nutrients, fibre, vitamins, & minerals.
