Living Free From Show 2022: Cow’s milk allergy vs lactose intolerance. FODMAP Nutrition & Dietetics

Cow’s milk allergy and lactose intolerance can often be confused, however these conditions are vastly different. This short presentation aims to highlight the differences between the two conditions and will explore symptoms, diagnosis and management of both cow’s milk allergy and lactose intolerance. It will touch on potential nutrients at risk on a restricted diet and also emphasize the importance of engaging an Accredited Practising Dietitian to assist in achieving nutritional adequacy for any life stage.

Claire Burum is an Accredited Practising Dietitian working in Ringwood, Melbourne. Since graduating from a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics degree with Honours from Monash University, she has gained years of experience in a wide variety of settings including clinical dietetics and private practise. Claire has worked for many major public and private hospitals as a gastroenterology dietitian, working closely with consultant doctors and caring for complex patients. Claire’s areas of interest include irritable bowel syndrome, food allergy and intolerance, inflammatory bowel disease and coeliac disease. She is passionate about translating evidenced-based nutrition science into practical advice. Claire utilises individual, client-centred counselling skills and strives to provide a non-judgmental and supportive environment to help her clients achieve their goals. She works closely with clients to create positive, lasting relationships with food, all while reducing gut symptoms and promoting balanced, sustainable food and lifestyle changes
